With unexpected twists and technical precision, MANNA invites us into joyful participation with the sonic form. Through surprises in tone and timber, we are danced across a utopian future that asks us to connect rather than disengage, and to listen closely without expectation but through gentle observation.

"Joyful Participation in the Sorrows of Now" came out of an intense season of work for MANNA after performing live, long form (in some cases 50 minute set times) spatial audio pieces for Making Time festival and Passages in Philadelphia, PA with two Moog Mother 32s combined with a standard eurorack modular.

“For that balance between fluidity and surprise, I tried to generate a diverse set of tones and timbres across the audio field in sweeping, exaggerated and unexpected ways. I used the Wrong Sound Stage II Spatializer in many of the patches you hear and Moog’s Animoog Z app, a vector synthesis wavetable to direct the sounds and the listener’s attention. You’ll hear extreme panning for a similar end.”

Perched from a window above Philadelphia's East Kensington neighborhood, MANNA offers a meditation and document from her home studio that asks us to fight the urge to detach as an observer. Instead, we take the stairs to street level and practice reentry with our respective spheres and communities.
